Organization by: (Somali Youth for peace and Development Organization (SOYPED), Ministry of local Government and Reconciliation, NGO, and 30 Elders ‘Association. Participants: 30 Senior Community Elders, Government Representatives, local leaders, community members.
RECONCILIATION BACKGROUND
The reconciliation meeting was organized to address ongoing conflicts and foster a culture of peace and unity among the communities within the southwest state of Somalia.
Given the critical role of 30 senior elders in Somalia society as custodians of traditions and mediators in disputes, the engagement aimed to empower these leads to spearhead reconciliation efforts.
The event provided a platform to discuss grievances, propose solutions, and promote dialogue to address underlying tensions and foster trust within the community.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the engagement were as follows:
To facilitate open dialogue among senior elders from different communities in Southwest State.
To promote traditional conflict resolution mechanisms, building on elders’ authority and influence.
To address root causes of local conflicts and identify community-driven solutions.
To build trust between communities and government officials and encourage cooperation for sustainable peace
